Navigating our way through natural healing

Hi, my name is Ashley Jenkins, I live in Vero Beach, Florida with my husband, Todd, our twelve-year-old daughter, Kloey, Yorkie, Sampson, and our new addition Mille, she is a Yorkie/Maltese. I am not a writer so please forgive my spelling and grammar mistakes. I wanted to start this blog for anyone interested in following our journey through the natural healing of my husband’s cancer. Along the way, we have realized what is really important in our lives, OUR HEALTH! Really, what kind of life can we have if we do not have our health? The whole health of our body, spirit, and mind.

Todd and I are high school sweethearts and started dating in September 1999. We got married on May 13th, 2006 and had our daughter June 18th, 2007. She is our only child and no, we are not planning on having any more kids (a question we get asked a lot). Although, if it were to happen, I am a believer that things happen for a reason. I never thought we would have been faced with my husband being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

We had a normal life both working full-time jobs, Todd was working in Pest Control and I was a scheduler at a surgery center. Every Monday through Friday was busy with work, picking up our daughter from school, doing homework, gymnastics, fixing dinner, showers, and bedtime. Every day seemed to be wasting away and not getting too much “family time”. Work could get stressful and not feeling like you had enough time added to that stress.

Like many Americans, it also became easy to pick up something (unhealthy) for dinner and that formed a habit of eating out regularly. We used eating out as a reward, a celebration and most of all a convenience. Our house was full of snacks where “junk food”, it is called that for a reason.

Statistics show that a lot of the world is stressed, which can cause a lot of damage to your body. There are several things in everyday life that cause us stress. Our environment is full of toxins. What we put into our body is our fuel, it needs to be high grade! Our mind needs to be relaxed, and that helps us get good sleep. Our faith in what we believe keeps us positive. We have learned that all of these things contributed to Todd’s cancer diagnosis. Also, to some health concerns of our daughter and myself. Stress causes bad habits to form easier, like eating, too much alcohol and laziness. Then those things can cause the disease of obesity, diabetes, depression and so on.

I am excited to share our story through this blog and can only hope that it touches someone or someone you may know going through cancer or any health issues. Or maybe you just want to start a healthier lifestyle. We believe that the body can heal itself and needs some natural help along the way.

p.s. I love spending time with my little family, butterflies, flowers and being in nature… Capturing these precious moments on camera is a passion of mine.
