Time: The One Thing We Can’t Get Back

Time. It’s the one thing we always seem to need more of, yet it’s the only thing we can never get back. Years ago, when I decided to start this blog, it was to not only to share our story, but help build my message around this truth, but somewhere along the way, I got caught up in life’s business, the illusion of time and drifted from it. it’s a constant struggle for me to create balance between presence and creating. Lately, though, I’ve been reflecting on this more deeply as I’m currently reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. The lessons from this book, combined with the recent loss of someone close to us, have reminded me of just how precious the present moment is. There’s never a “perfect” time for anything. The only time we truly have is right now. Tomorrow isn’t promised, and most of us don’t realize that until we’re faced with loss or hardship.

How often have you thought, “I’ll start when the timing’s right”? Whether it’s launching your dream business, prioritizing your health, or chasing a passion, we hold off, waiting for a magical moment that feels safe. But here’s the truth: the “perfect” time doesn’t exist. Perfection itself doesn’t either, coming from a recovering perfectionist…. Life doesn’t pause for us to catch up, and every day spent waiting is a day lost. As Eckhart Tolle writes in The Power of Now, “Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be.”

You don’t need more time. You need to make the most of the time you have.

Losing someone close to you changes how you see the world. It forces you to confront the reality that time is fragile and fleeting. For us, this recent loss shook us awake. It reminded me of how much we’ve taken time for granted. We’re not guaranteed tomorrow, and every day we put off living fully is a day we can never get back.

Why must it take losing someone to wake us up? We all know time is limited, but it’s not until we face loss or hardship that we truly understand how precious each moment is.

There’s magic in the present moment. It’s where life happens. The joy, the growth, the opportunities—they’re all happening right now. When we’re too focused on the future or stuck in the past, we miss it. As Tolle reminds us, “The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.”

Living in the now isn’t about ignoring your responsibilities; it’s about showing up fully for your life as it is, today. You don’t have to wait for some future version of yourself to begin—who you are right now is enough. Your goals, dreams, and happiness are waiting for you in the present.

Ask yourself: What would you do if you knew you weren’t guaranteed tomorrow? What if you stopped waiting for the “right time” and embraced today with an absolute heck yes? Would you finally take that leap? Would you call that person you’ve been meaning to reconnect with?

Regret is often rooted in time lost, not opportunities missed. The opportunities are always there—we just need to stop waiting. Time is the most valuable currency we have, and how we spend it determines the life we create. It’s not about having endless time—it’s about making today count.

So, what are you waiting for? Life isn’t waiting for you. Make the most of the time you have now, because that’s all any of us truly have. As Eckhart Tolle says, “Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.”

The life you want is within reach—don’t wait for the “perfect time” to start living it.
